Scenic places
Glen Etive
One of the most picturesque glens in the area.
A winding road takes you down through the glen to Loch Etive at the bottom. In June, the rhododendrons are spectacular and Red Deer can be seen throughout the year. The river has many rapids and is a favourite place for canoeists. Keep your eyes on the ridges for Golden Eagles. Take a picnic as there are no tea rooms or combine it with a trip up the Glencoe chairlift.
Head towards Crianlarich and turn right just before Glencoe Ski Centre.

Elgol
If you are visiting Skye, then this must be on your itinerary.
Elgol is at the end of a road and looks out over the island of Soay (famous for its sheep). The hamlet has a fantastic Coffee House and Gallery and there are boat trips available from the quay (need to book). Visit the sword makers on the way but only if you have a healthy bank balance.
Get on to Skye via the Skye Bridge and head for Broadford. The turning to Elgol is signposted to the left by the Broadford Hotel. Come back via the ferry from Armadale to Mallaig.
Rhu
Another little hidden gem.
A beatiful rocky spot looking out over the Small Isles with nice walks, plenty of wildlife (look out for whales at sea) and a nice drive to get there. Combine this with lunch at the Old Library Restaurant in Arisaig.
Turn left just before you get to Arisaig

Loch Ness (East)
Loch Ness from the West is a little disappointing but is much prettier up the East side. By comparison there is nothing touristy but it is very scenic and much quieter if you are going to Inverness. Loch Ruthven (Birdwatching) is off this road at Croachy.
Combine this with a bite to eat at the Bothy in Fort Augustus
Easdale Island
A beautiful spot just south of Oban and well worth going to if you are down there.
Originally a slate quarry, the island now has a thriving community with a delightful eating place called the Puffer. Catch the ferry and walk round the island - all within the hour. This is where the SeaFari boat trips run from.
Head South out of Oban and turn right to Seil Island. Go over the Bridge over the Atlantic and follow the signs to Easdale.
