Accessibility Statement

At Birchbrae Highland Lodges, we want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable during their stay. Our seven luxury self-catering lodges are located in peaceful woodland in Onich, between Glencoe and Fort William in the Scottish Highlands.

We recognise that every guest’s accessibility requirements are different and aim to provide clear, practical information to help you plan your visit with confidence.

Accessible Self-Catering Accommodation

Our specially adapted Staffa Lodge has been designed to accommodate guests with mobility difficulties, including wheelchair users. It offers the same comfortable facilities as our other six lodges, together with a range of accessibility adaptations.

Staffa has been assessed by VisitScotland as Category 3 for guests with mobility impairments.

Access and Mobility

  • Single-storey self-catering accommodation.
  • Ramp access to the entrance.
  • Spacious living areas to assist manoeuvrability.
  • Wooden flooring throughout the main living areas and two bedrooms.
  • Enlarged veranda offering additional space for access and outdoor seating.
  • Reserved accessible parking directly outside the lodge.

Accessible Bathroom Facilities

Staffa has two shower rooms, including a specially adapted wet room featuring:

– Wheel-in shower.

– Grab rails.

– Raised toilet.

– Shower chair.

The second shower room has a standard shower with additional grab rails.

Bedrooms and Living Areas

Staffa sleeps up to six guests across three bedrooms, with one king-size bedroom and two twin bedrooms.

The lodge includes a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable lounge and dining area, along with Wi-Fi, heating, electricity, bed linen and towels.

The accommodation has been designed to provide comfort for mixed-ability families and groups, including guests who do not require accessibility adaptations.

Important Information About Wheelchair Access

Although Staffa has been adapted for wheelchair users, it may not be suitable for all types of powered wheelchair or mobility scooter, particularly larger models.

We strongly recommend contacting us before booking to discuss your individual requirements, including wheelchair dimensions, manoeuvring space and any additional assistance or equipment you may need.

Other Birchbrae lodges may also be suitable for some guests with mobility difficulties. Please contact us to discuss the available accommodation.

Access to Our Grounds and Surrounding Area

Birchbrae is situated within a secluded woodland setting close to Loch Linnhe. As this is a natural Highland environment, access around the grounds and surrounding countryside may vary depending on the terrain, surfaces and weather conditions.

We are happy to discuss access to the grounds, parking and the surrounding area so you can make an informed decision before travelling.

Assistance Dogs and Pets

Dogs are welcome in all seven of our lodges, including Staffa.

If you will be travelling with an assistance dog, please contact us before booking so that we can discuss any requirements and make suitable arrangements.

Planning Your Accessible Highland Holiday

We understand the importance of knowing exactly what to expect when booking accessible accommodation.
